Pentecost

Pentecost is the celebration of the Holy Spirit coming into the disciples. Jesus promised his disciples when He was gone, another would come to fill them and guide them along their path. There were 120 who gathered in an Upper Room awaiting fulfillment of Jesus’ promise.

“And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.”

Acts 2:2-4

There is so much in this brief scripture, let’s pull out a few elements. First, Jesus’ promise was kept. The disciples did not know exactly when and they surely did not know what! They believed in Jesus and allowed their faith to keep them together while they waited for His promise to be fulfilled.

The Holy Spirit came directly from heaven. His entrance disturbed the physical state of the environment the disciples were in, with the sound of a “violent” wind. The Holy Spirit entry was powerful and had control over nature.

The Holy Spirit connection was individual. They were together as a group, but when Holy Spirit made His entrance, it was to each, individually. Our relationship with God is individual and that is the same for parts of the Trinity: Father, Sona and Holy Spirit.

Finally, the Holy Spirit operated from within each of them and displayed His power through each of them by giving them the power to speak in different languages. The scripture again reinforces the individual relationship God seeks with all of us!

Take Action:

Pray for God to connect (or reconnect) you the Holy Spirit within you. Seek understanding of how He speaks to you individually. Many will speak of a “small voice” they feel inside them, directing or guiding them. Continue reading God’s work and seeking this deeper understanding.
